Okay there seems to be a misunderstanding on my behalf of spares and unwanted parts. Spares I value and unwanted parts well that says it all.

You don’t need to insist on whether Mike is worthy and/or trustworthy. I know enough to know that he is of good character.

So I ask again, how will this work?

Who’s stopping some new member on the forum writing to Mike and requesting the complete rare round port SU setup that you just donated?

And who will stop that same member selling that on for a few hundred?

Will there be some sort of guidelines on who can request parts?

Who will update the parts catalog and where will this catalog be located/accessed?

How will the shipping costs be handled or does the donor also have to pay for postage or will the recipient have to pay a small fee to justify the costs?

How many parts are recipients limited to and will Mike get swamped with junk?

Seeing as Webers are the most popular carbs won't these be the hardest to keep stock of?

Who will assist Mike with identifying parts or is this all up to Mike? I can provide a Solex Mikuni parts catalog?


I want my parts to go to members that I know and members that have been on the forum for years. There is no way in the world I will donate parts of they’re going out to any old chum off the site? Sorry to say it but there are a handful of arseholes on this website that I simply refuse to deal with.

Maybe Mike can start a thread/forum of Carby parts restricted to advertising only (i.e no responding on the thread, only PMs). Donors will be responsible to ensure the parts are clean and in good condition, with sufficient photographs to illustrate. Donors therefore have the opportunity to witness where and who their parts go to. Recipients can pay postage. This also makes the catalog a visual one, some people know what their parts look like but they don’t know what they’re called.

That isn’t my best suggestion but I’d like to see this work and at the moment I can’t see it working too well.
