Well derp to me is all I can say, cranked it for a bit and could smell fuel in the carb, but it was not firing up :(, so I changed the coil over, still not spark, then I checked the points were opening, yep they did, and upon putting dizzy cap on, I realized that the negative from the coil was on the wrong terminal on the dizzy, so fixed that up.
So I asked my old man to hold the timing gun to see if there was spark this time, about 1/4 of a second after I tried to crank it, it had started, was revving high and heated up unusually quick (i.e extractors were burning paint in about 5-6 seconds, the thermostat had opened before 1 min of running time), was also blowing lots of rich smoke.
The best part was it did not miss a beat, fired every time and revved like mad when on the gas.
So I am going to wait for it to cool down now and check the timing is not retarded and reduce the fuel mixture.
Quick question, does anyone know if there is a idle speed screw on a 32/36 weber carb? or is it just the fuel mixture that dictates idle speed?
