Adjustable Cam Sprocket allows for precision 'dialing-in' of the camshaft... simple as that really. Imagine the stock sprocket with one setting and then consider a performance cam with an adjustable sprocket- you get the opportunity to fine tune valve operation.

That's my understanding anyway.

Kameari make a beautiful adjustable camshaft sprocket.
