OK, I've got some good news. Looks like the pulsar strut tops can be adapted, and I was off on the costs by a fair bit. The costs, outright, are likely going to be less than half the figures I previously mentined (which were guesstimates at best) ALso - due to the way they are able to be 'split' apart the centre rubber section can be removed so that the plates themselves can be welded and I won't have to keep stopping and cooling in water or whatever to protect the rubber. So the welding phase of the conversion can be done practically all in one go.
