In welding with a wire feed using flux core I have had reasonable results. You end up with a weld that looks like it was done with a stick welder. Chip the flux barrier off and brush with a wire brush and it should look just fine. The advantage of it is if you need to weld outdoors as there is almost no day that is still enough to not blow the gas shield away. Then you get a real mess and porosity. Make sure that you switch the polarity when welding with the flux core wire.
I agree that the Ebay wire feed welders are suspect. As was suggested earlier, save a bit longer and get a Lincoln or a Miller. Hobart makes a nice unit as well. There are others that will work but as was suggested, parts may be a bit of a problem.
