edp, your right on tar not bieng ideal for the job. Sure a product designed for the job is the best way to go, but if you are on the shoestring budget, then tar works well enough. I does eventually go hard enough. The stuff I painted onto my old patrol went hard after a few years.

That soundproofing job cost me about $50 total, which at the time when I was earning $385/week gross @ $9.60/hr, that was expensive. I used the old underlay from my mums house (free), and it worked fine.

But, yeah, if you have the cash, the right product for the right job is the best way to go.
