A/C will not change the timing. A slight shake is normal because of the increased load to engine.

Be sure to adjust the idle air/fuel mixture correctly -- if it is a little lean it may idle OK without the extra load. But shake too much with the extra load.

The shake and the ping could both be caused by a vacuum leak. Did you try to fit a FICD? It uses vacuum but you might have it connected incorrectly.
