TO be honest, I had absolutely no idea who he bought the cam off, and made my response based purely on the pic provided. Considering the cost/downtime in having to pluck the motor back out and re-fit a second cam, seal it all up and re-fit the motor - I think the advice still stands.
I absolutely wasn't suggesting someone had ripped him off. Based on the location of the chip, it's a reasonable chance that it happened when it was being removed from the engine, or fitted to it, and it's gone slightly angular and that edge has hit the lip of the hole in teh block where the cam bearings are. But that's not the only way it could happen. It's not a huge chip, and it's possible that it just wasn't noticed somewhere along the way. I'll say this - and I'm sure of it - no way in hell would DatsAndy have known it was dodgy and sold it on the sly, he's honest when it comes to that sort of thing, take it to the bank. SO either it slipped by un-noticed or maybe happened in transit or during an early mock up assembly to check clearances etc.
Having said all that, just to prove there's no hard feelings and animosity - I bought a cam off another member here some time ago but haven't managed to find time to pick it up. It's a fairly decent grind (up into rally motor territory) and is for the rear mounted distributor engine blocks. If your block can take this cam, you can have it for free.
I'll dig up the specs but it's somewhere around .445" lift at teh valves and 40 74 74 41 seat timing - around 290-295 seat duration.
This _is_ a big cam for an a12, and would want decent carburettion and head work. It might not be ideal for you combination - but if it happens to be suitable, you're welcome to it.
