The benefit of round port is that it increases the air velocity earlier on co pared to a head with bigger ports, the result is better fuel economy, better down low power and faster acceleration.

If you supply the 1400cc's through a 32/36 or 32mm primary and 36mm secondary, the engine is 'sharing' the cross sectional area of a 32 and 36mm throat. Put twin cabs on and each cylinder has its own opening of 32mm (suggested throat size) so 128mm of opening all up compared to 66mm on the 32/36.

Here is my engine, the bore spacing of the carbs is narrower, essentially better flow path than the DCOE , DHLA alternatives.
