the common VM series mikuni comes in 2mm increments, from 20 to 40 or so. If you already know for sure that the 30's are too small, that would eliminate them. I've worked them on ultralights and 32 mm carbs are easy to find.

An engine with too large of a carburetor stops increasing its power/rpm when the carb opens in excess of what the engine can use. So adjusting them has to be different as they will be operating on the needle and needle jet, not the main jet as it controls say 80% to 100% and you will not be running there.

As Mikuni makes several different kinds of carburetors, the above VM series information could easily not apply to you.
