SR / CA18 engine conversion questions?

Hi Guys I have been reading through some posts regarding engine conversions & power to weight ratios but I am still a bit confused.
My dilemma is I need a car with a bit more power just for day to day driving and to be able to easily tow a motorbike, I do not want to buy another car as my Datsun is my dream car it just needs more power and I do not want to have two registered cars.
I have been talking to a local mechanics who does a lot of engine conversions and is pretty keen to take on my Datto.
So if I was to go ahead it would either be a CA or a SR probably leaning more towards the SR though, and I was wondering with the current NSW engineering rules would I have to make any modifications to the brakes in order to make it stop from a legal point of view?
I will upgrade them as some point anyway but just to get it on the road could I leave the brakes as they are? The car is a 78 120Y and has drum rear and Disc front?
Thanks
Andy
