ok my q's is where to cut the strut

either just under the original spring perch, then shorten and weld in the same place. this way the top half (the bit welded back on is long) will this effect it in anyway

or

take spring perch of and grind the weld smooth and cut higher and have a shorter top half

is either way ok? i guess it all depends on how much you are cutting off? im going the 240z insert and the usual coilover set up.
