I scraped all the paint off my trim pieces with a piece of aluminum. Stainless steel and chome are harder than aluminum so they wont scratch, but the paint will chip off. I used a file to sharpen the aluminum when it went dull.
Now, don't scrape the paint off like a gorilla or something will surely get scratched. It comes off pretty fast.
