The well to wheel does not cover many factors and are very general not taking into account the overall transport costs for Australian conditions, import and processing. Also does not cover servicing the transport, processing plants and other operational parts for refineries that are also subsidised in the running costs equation. Ive got family friends that work at the Altona refinery and the amount of people to hold that operation, peeps traveling from all over to work there and contractors its astounding that such a monopoly can get away with so much waste.

The leaf is the future providing mass production and better battery chemistry is possible using sustainable or environmentally conscious processes. I realise its far from perfect but there needs to be a shift or driving 1 litre diesel twin charged SUVs will be the norm.

The EV and converted EV are suitable as a second car or daily commuter, the battery tech is owned by big energy/oil so as a first car only things like the lear could replace the first car or even use rentals (ICE powered or hybrid) till the fuel prices make EVs viable.

For now they are a new and disadvantage by the oil industry yet I know of many that are charged off grid 2 here in Ceres Brunswick and a fleet in Chile from Hydro electicity plants. Its only a matter of time till "E" makes a big impact.

ICE vehicles are worse polluters than EVs in the final equation. Big Oil does not release all the data for the researchers to make a perfect non oil biased analysis.

Im not a supporter of any CSG project for E generation, I believe CNG gas like in East Timor enough to meet our needs and like all evils is the lesser of fuel mining in terms of enviromental pollution but there are always other companies looking for a piece of the energy pie which is out of our control unless we can divert some of the profits we make to a more sustainable existence without waiting for the Gov to do it.

Our current energy production based on fossil/nuclear fuel definitely needs to be decommissioned and a new economy/jobs industrial revolution can be seen with the adoption of wave, thermal solar and other sustainable energy production and especially thermal solar has no hippies employed in any part of the business just very clever people that see where the rest of the world is wrong and dont mind driving some EVs regardless of the controlled mass media brainwashing.
