The high picthed noise could also be the power suppy moudule, these p/suppies sqeal when they are overloaded, as in a shortcircuit or similar fault. Like I said in my previous post, I see this all the time in at work.
Do as Dattodude said and check the spindle motor (the bit that spins the CD), though I doubt it would be this as motors generaly make a low pitched hum, if any noise at all.
