Ah, two sensors were only used 1996-1997.

Of course, the old fashioned Miata enthusiasts were still calling a Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) a Crankshaft Angle Sensor (CAS) adding the the confusion as there was now a real crankshaft angle sensor with the name Crankshaft Position Sensor.
