Actually no, GMH originally specced the cam belt change at 100,000 KM intervals, Good wide tough belt pity about the cheapskate bearings in ths rubbish idler pulley's after many failures fixed under warranty GM did what GM does.
No they did not improve the product they just lowered the belt and pulley change interval to 60,000 KM's.
Yes as a "Race Engine" when you basically throw away most of the factory bits it's a whole new ballgame and surprisingly fast and reasonably reliable but not in stock form.
