About a year ago, I bought a Japanese car magazine at China town in San Fransisco that had a lot of older Datsuns in it. There were also a bunch of car dealer ads, mostly specializing in retro-cars such as 1200's, Skylines, Z's, 510's, etc. Every single car that they advertised was hopped up in some way or another, and in primo condition. I don't have the magazine with me here in Arkansas, but there were some very odd model Z's that I had never heard of before in there, and a lot of them from what I could translate, had 2.0L engines and triple Mikuni/Solex/Weber carbs. Others had L28's stroked/bored out the 3.0L. I don't remember if any said '432' on them, but all of them looked sweet and like brand new. Some said they had RB26 Turbo engines as well! None of them were very cheap, most above 1,000,000 yen which I roughly equate to about $10,000 US. It's funny though, I never read or hear much about those "fast" Japanese models in Z Clubs or from Z guys.
We used to live in Japan when I was 4-7 yrs old, and my dad bought a '79 Fairlady ZX 2+2 in Japan. We brought it back to the States, and even though it was supposed to be stock, it was always way faster than American Z's. Also a lot of mechanical parts for a US '79 didn't quite match up right, and we had to mix and match some stuff from different ones. We sold that car to one of my close friends who has intentions of restoring it, but I wouldn't mind having it back!
