Datsun A-series engine have a timing chain tensioner designed to work with clockwise rotation. So some method will need to be developed to change that, like maybe a gear drive

12kw is only 16hp, so I expect crank end will be ok. Need to find a way to attach as the stock crank key is not very strong. Also driving it off the fragile cast iron crank pulley would be a problem as they are known to crack sometimes


Maybe you could install a supercharger drive pulley, and drive the generator off a reversing gear, while keeping the standard engine rotation?
