quality coolant can last many years (my Forester has 16 year old coolant and is very clean inside)

if it looks clear now, i would use tap water to flush out the system and the block, then fill with distilled water/coolant mixture

You might see some rust flakes come out of the engine block drain plug hole, that is common with iron blocks
