they are the best starting point, but there is still bell housing modifications required i.e. cutting, moving and re-welding. The there is the clutch & fly wheel to worry about, the SR20 flywheel is really thick where as the SR16 isn't, the cranks are different so you can't just replace one with the other. also the input shaft from the SR20 box isn't long enough to get to the SR16 flywheel & clutch plate.
And the list go on .......
the plannium chambers aren't interchangeable but the SR20 could be modified to suit.
the mounting points on the block are different so special mounts are need e.t.c.
Basically every thing is very close & at a glance looks the same but when you actually do the measurements there is enough differences to be a pain in the butt!
