What does "air shock" mean in Australia? In the US it means shocks that you fill with compressed air, just like a tire.

The "gas shocks" are a different story. Yes, in the late 80s these became very popular, but I dislike them. If you already have the right springs, the gas-filled shocks add even more, making the ride stiffer. They worked pretty good on old, lumbering softly-sprung cars.
