Have a look at an a-series cylinder head & you`ll notice two casting depressions along one edge of the head-gasket sealing face.
These look like thumbprints.
The manufacturer purposefuly put them there to guage maximum machining tolerance.
When these thumbprints disappear,the cylinder head is at minimum thickness & is no longer servicable.
