Well, as it turns out, I am actually going to buy the whole car. It's a '93 180SX. The left rear and right rear has been damaged, but the rest of the car is primo, and super clean. There are a few reasons why I'm doing this; the first is we can only have one car registered at a time, so this will be my daily driver for a few months as I save up to do the conversion right. Since I plan on basically only working on my Datsun and restoring it while it's in Japan for the next 2 years, there's no sense in paying all kinds of money and jumping through all kinds of hoops to get it registered. Anyway I'm getting it for $1200 and I figure it'll more than pay for itself when I part out the car. I'm gonna pick it up next week sometime. I've never driven a SR20DET powered car before today, and all I can say is the 1200 is gonna haul ass with that engine!
I think I might actually go with a Haltech E6X for the ecu and just pitch the stock one as it costs just as much to tweak/tune the stock ECU as for the Haltech.
I'll try to contact the datsun.com guy and see what he says. I remember trying that before with no response, I'll give it another go. Expect the conversion to start commencing around New Years. I've got to source a lightweight flywheel, 5 or 6 speed, clutch, manifold, bigger turbo, etc etc in the mean time. Talk to everyone later!
