The 10 amp wire wont cause a problem.
Basically (correct me if im wrong) this wire on the back of the dizzy is the main power feed for the points.
Its a 12 volt power feed going through the ceramic resistor and throught the coil.
One way to test this is to check there is a voltage at the end of this wire.
Use a multimeter... or even shove a screwdriver in the end of it and earth it against the motor....
No Spark - Problem - trace the wire back until you get a spark.
Spark - check condensor and points.
failing that, take it to an auto electrician and see if you can give you some advice for free.
