That's just wrong...

Drums that are well set-up should stop that lightweight car just fine. But fade will be an issue if you ever drive it hard or take it to a track. Discs will probably be the best way to overcome that.

I understand completely that the stock set-up may work just fine, but I don't think you could make the case that it's a bad thing to have overkill in the braking department.
