The Tach measure the voltage or the potential difference across the coil.
I dont know if your wiring loom contains the wires needed. 2 black ones in my car.
If all else fails, run two wires from the coil to the tach. It shouldnt need a resistor (but dont quote me on this!).
Oh, and make sure you get the polarity (+/-) right...
