PDS It would seem, from reading Tens_and_Twenties post that there are in fact serious problems linked to this instalation, at least in relation to "the good ones," so perhaps there really is a reason that it is not a popular, or even seldom done, conversion. My interpretation of the original post was a desire to install this as a two wheel, conventional drive swap, & not an AWD conversion.
"to [the best of] my knowledge" Not I, nor anyone, even you, can say with absolute authaurity that any number of things is an absolute. If someone has done this conversion before, i have not become aware of it yet. So what. I wrote the truth & you find fault with that.
The upright inline four, & the horrizontally opposed, four cylinder engines discussed here do in fact share the commonality of being four cycle poppet valve engines, qualifying under the "common basic design concept" heading, however i'm sure that most would agree that they do not share a common layout as i had writen, & has been repeated & highlighted in your post. Not that the comment had anything to do with this particular subject anyway.
Charlies advice was good, but taking a tape measure to the subject components in any proposed conversion will provide much needed info very quickly, as i'm sure you know, & i'm sure that you have done many times.
It's too bad that you feel so much angst about this, but i suspect that the vitriole is a bit out of proportion to the imagined offence. In fact, it's looking like a personal attack disguised as chastisement. Are you sure that you are in control of yourself? Not too much Xmas cheer?
Storeyteller? call me what you will if it gives you cause to feel better, that'l be OK with me. I suspect that any competent shrink would say that namecalling would be good therapy for you as it helps release pent up tension. Just be carefull that it doesn't run to hysteria
I hope that you, & everyone else as well, had a good christmas. Chris
