The Subaru Brumby -- since it already has a Subaru flat-four -- should be a relatively straightforward swap. The Brumby was called the Subaru "Brat" in the US.

Fitting a Subaru powertrain in the back of a 1200 ute is certainly not a "bolt in" project, but if you are good at welding roll cages and such it wouldn't seem to be much different from other tube-frame based race car projects ... seems certainly do-able.

Anyone remember the "Hurst Hairy Oldsmobile"? When the new 1966 fwd Olds Toronado debuted, Hurst had one built with a duplicate fwd unit fitted in the back seat area, in other words dual-engined. It would smoke all four tires down the quarter mile.
