I just got stung real bad trying to buy a 1200 ute! So take note so it doesn't happen to you.

I've been searching for a good condition 1200 ute for ages, then one comes up with a CA18 already in......I go around to look & the engine has a noise.......So I asked the question, to which the reply "Aw mate I had heaps of Mechanics look at it & they reckon it's O.K......It's probably just a timing chain rattle".

O.k I say (and we agree on a price) but I want my Mechanic to look at it....."No Worries" he says, but when the time comes to arrange it this guy conveniently goes shopping.........And then the funny stuff starts...."why do you need a Mechanic to look at it? you said you were going to buy it just buy it!" etc. etc.

Of course by this stage he's threatening to sell it to someone else, so I think to myself.....Well he said there's nothing wrong with it so i'll just trust him & put down a holding deposit ($400).........BAD IDEA!

When the inspection was finally done it was found that the engine was completely stuffed & needed a rebuild (the best price I could get was $3200)........So I made him an offer more in line with a car with a stuffed engine (i.e. 2K less) & he refused and KEPT MY DEPOSIT.

So now I have no ute and am $400 out of pocket.

I have spoken to the bacon & they reckon that I have to go through small claims to get my money (could take a year)

Like I said.....BUYER BEWARE.
