For torque and MPG - DCOE or SU?

Someone is going to say "just stick with the stock 306 if you want MPG". I want more performance then the 306 but I don't want to give up ALL of my fuel economy.

I am curious what the actual difference is for properly tuned examples of DCOE and SU setups for this torque/fuel efficiency goal.

I have a DCOE and manifold in hand - is it worth finding a GX style SU setup instead, or can I get the DCOE close enough? I am going to be using a round port quench head, small chokes, correct cam, and proper jetting for max low end torque on an A15.

I just want to know ahead of time if the DCOE is never going to come close to the SU for that kind of setup.

Thanks all.
