Last weekend 10/8 & 10/9 I ran a vintage race, the changes were the new cam (.460 lift 280 Duration) and a set of Hoosier vintage TD 185D 60 13's.

Stan (OGrei) and his wife came up from SoCal, delivered an A15 and 5 speed I bought from him and attended the event.

First session the car really wouldn't rev................so as I was cleaning off the wires (valve cover gasket leaked and spewed oil everywhere at a track day two weeks prior) Stan being more observant than I, noticed the dizzy was wobbly. Well it was because the timing was nearly as retarded as the driver, the pinch bolt had come lose either from the lube job or the mechanics (me) sketchy work.................no matter I have the dizzy marked and was able to set in about 30 seconds. At the aforementioned track day I had jetted the carbs down thinking it was running fat............the plugs were now a very light brown so i went back up to 152's (FCR carbs.

Well in our qualifying race I went from 1:59s to 156's; the motor now pulled 8K in 3rd and in 2nd it became very apparent that I need a 10K tach. There is still nothing below 4K, it will putt around on 1/3 throttle at 2K but needs 4K before you go past 1/2. It is also easier to get on the trailer. I went from 28th to 23rd Final setting was 45 Pilot , 152 Main and needle position 5. I did almost peel the side off a reeeeally pretty 62 Alfa Guiletta, he was going about 85 through turn 6 and I was up to near 95 and shot past him on the outside just as started moving over to line up for turn 7, I ended up hanging the wheels partially off the track edge

Sunday had the Porsche Alfa Datsun Challange...................my qualifying time earned me dead last (25th). On the opening lap I just kept it clean and really started racing about turn 8. Well I'd manage to get in striking distance of a 67 Alfa GTV...............the Driver was struggling with a bad 3rd gear syncro. I started driving the wheels off the car and in turn 8 did a slide job on him that Lewis Hamilton would have been envious off.........................off course in turn 4 I drove like Tom Grossmann, got greedy with the throttle skated the front end, tried to stay in it but knew I needed to lift, ended up dropping the right rear wheel in a giant chuck hole and the lovely tank slapper let the Alfa catch back up and he zapped down the next straight. We battle back and forth but I came up short....................the plus side is I went 1:55 Flat and we passed a bunch of cars.

Sunday looked pretty good but the chuck hole came back to bite me, I was gunning for a Mini but on lap two the car started handling weird, like I cut a tire, over the braking bumps for turn one I knew what had happened. My take no prisoners had broke a shock mount,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the car turned OK right but was really slide happy in left handers. So I just managed to hold off a pair of Triumph Spitfires and finished 17th out of 33 cars.

So after whining about the new cam it combined with lower gearing due to the Hoosiers (64.75 around) the car ran great and because I was in with other low power cars I didn't get dusted so bad down the straights. I even won my class (OK so the other two cars were way faster but hey, they broke)
