After looking over all the classifieds in Northern Calif. I recieved a tip from a friend of mine that right here in the town that I live in,A 71or72 1200 was rotting away in a driveway. I Took directions from him, went to look, and came home with the title in my hand! a rust-free 2 door body,no motor, trans. or interior. Now the problem I have is choosing a engine, trans.for it. This car is so versitile.I cant decide! I"m thinking of a n L-18(got one) or an L16(got two) and possibly a 5-speed. OH! DECISIONS-DECISIONS!!It seems, after looking over the forum, just about every datsun/nissan combination has been done.I know that I dont need a monster eng. As these cars are LIGHT! (unlike the 620,which is a tank in comparison, most truck-nuts here build L_Z 24"sor build/tune L-20"s) I'm thinking of an A-14/5-speed. I know where I can get a B210 for a little of nothing and it runs excellent. I"ll have a little time to think it over,as I"m putting the finishing touches on my son"s 70 521 pick-up He"s a fellow datsun-nut also. Tom S.found one!now**??

Driftindatsun You will find that an A14 or A15, particularly in GX trim [or better] with a suitable 5 speed is a very good, easy to build & cost effective combination. You will love it & your dollar still buys more over here, so check some of the Aussie websites that specialise in Datsun stuff. If you need some site addresses, just ask & you shall receive. The popularity of Datsuns here means that they are still well catered for. Your location on the west coast means that any freight costs are mininised. Chris

Hi driftindatsun, Exciting! Is it a 2-dr sedan or 2-dr coupe? Those are the only two models we got in the USA. You can see the difference in our tech section article body styles

Good score Tom, I remember somone had said there was a 2 door sedan in wreckers over there somewhere that had a leather interior. Ive gone old school with mine GX 1200,twin SU"s,mild cam and a option 1 five speed I have also modified a ute diff so it will bolt in but I am still pondering which centre to use. I have been told the A14 is the better (?) engine to work. good luck Ade

Hmmm, am I correct in believing that the 2-dr sedan was rare in OZ?, cause I saw one when i was looking for my 4-dr, but it had been 'done up' with some sort of carby, bonnet pins rather than cable, switch and push button ignition, and suspn so low that it rubbed simply under brakes... plus the most horrible orange paint. oh well, hopefully someone got it and fixed it up good...

I'd probably just be ruing the day cause i'd never have the dosh to fix it up...
I'm actually pretty happy with the 4-dr, i like the old-ladies-car-anti-street-cred effect it has on me picking up :)

The 1200 is a coupe, and the B210 is a GX hatchback

Buy them both, particularly if the B210, known as 120Y's here, has the factory twin carbs, & extra specially if it has it's original [but optional] 5 speed gearbox.
The B210 engine is not a direct "drop in" but the mods required to fit it are almost insignificant
It looks like you must be related to a cat, as they too, fall on their feet. [i'm jealous.] Good fortune to you. Chris
