Can anyone shed some light on the best way to pump or flare the guards successfully on my 1200 coupe... Any information would be greatly appreciated.

put flares on, or jsut grab the gaurd with both hands and lean back hard (no promises paint wont crack), why do you want to do it, have you lipped the gaurds??

One way to pump/flare your guards is with a peice of pipe . You mearly have to put it under the front guard and gently roll it backwards and forwards while levering down against the guard. It may mean haveing to repaint the guards , but if you are genal enough and take your time it is suprising how nice a job this method can produce. You have to use pipe of at least 2 inch diameter (depending on your tire size). the pipe must also have a decent wall thickness(exust pipe isnt really suitable).
Its very important that you dont allow the end of the pipe to touch the part of the guard your trying to flare , or it will stretch a nasty crease into it(I ruined an otherwise ok guard this way ). I also belive you can get a proper tool for this job that bolts to the wheel ,and has a roller on a leaver to do the same thing (Ive never acually seen one myself). One minus in punping 1200 guards in this way is as the flare gets bigger you lose theline through the middle of the guard.

thats called "lipping the guards", i did mine with a hammer while someone else held a block of wood (with rag around it), on the other side of where i was hitting,

basically you are folding up the flat section of the gaurd that sticks in towards the centre of the car

Thanx for the info. I'd rather pumped guards than the SLR flares and I'm doing it mainly for the look and if it does give me some extra room for bigger rubber then that would be a +...

have you seen my flares, they are 2inch, but follow the line of the car nicely and taper toward the bottom, i may be biased but i reckon they are melow but very sweet, and if you fill em the car looks pretty squat and mean, they are from a place called JTS in nsw at i think $220 for four, see my red coupe on my www below for picture

I eat my words they dont look too bad, If i do fill them do they tend to crack at the join at all. Do you just use ordinary car bog??? Also how much extra width do you end up with...
