how can you tell the difference if you have a A12 and A14 crankshafts side to side

Is there an "H" number stamped on each? The A12 parts are usually H10 or thereabouts. H62 would be an A14.

actually if I remember my PNC's (part number codes) correctly it's H10=A12, H62=A13, and H72=A14. I could be wrong on this, it's been a few years.

You're probably right. The part number codes refer to the chassis the part was first used in, so they vary. For example, not all B110 parts start with H10.
