Ive been told by my suspension guy that my chassis is bent... I have no idea exactly what this means for me, but im thinking that it cant be good. Does anyone know whats involved in a chassis allignment? how much should i expect to pay for this sort of stuff?

How does it actually work?
Any help/information/advice would be really appreciated..

Johno

yeah thats not good, from what i've heard that put it up on some rack and stretch it and stuff, labour costs can be pretty high, depends on where and how bad she's bent i guess

it certainly doesnt look bent... and when i was restoring it, all the panels fit on perfect- so im guessing its something that i cant see but a suspension specialist can..

If you can find a B120 Factory Workshop Manual from Nissan, they have the dimensions for checking bent frames.

Depends how badly it's bent, sometimes it can't be fixed, but if your panels fit ok, then maybe your suspension guy is wrong.

Cost you $30+ postage for a chassis manual!

he seems to know what he's talking about... I ve already taken it to my panelbeater to have a look at it for me. The annoying thing is, I dont actually have any idea what to look for or how to fix it.

I know how it happened though... DAMN YOU SKIPPY!!

If it drives straight, and doesn't chew out the tyres then I wouldn't worry about it. It always worth a second on those things too.

ps. hope it works out ok for you

its a bit of a mess realy.. Id say the roo bent the chasis and in the ensuing chaos of the colision, the car span around and hit a gutter side on... Thus the restoration. it is chewing out the front right tyre, but i think that has to do with the bent strut more than the chasis. Suspension guy doesnt want to fix the strut without fixing the chasis first.

This chasis staightening sounds like a very big job... thats what im worried about

Your chassis is likely only slightly out of alignment.
A reputable repair shop will set it up on the floor, or in a jig, & measure it for plumb, twist, & out of square.
Once they have discovered where the problem lies, they block & secure the car in the aligner, & pull, or push, the offending area untill it slowly becomes square.
The only pain in this surgical procedure is in the hip pocket nerve.

Sorry, I only have the North American version of the service manual.
I scanned the body alignments for the sedan, coupe and van ( ? 4dr wagon) for anyone else that's interested. The front ends are all similar so you should be able to use some of these measurements.
Ok, they're in Mechanical- body and interior.
