Does anyone know if an rb 20 could be fitted to a sunny , without having to butcher the firewall? Im just curious because I know a guy who has an rb20de compleate with comp, loom , 5spd and flows. its done 130,000 kms and he wants $1200 (nz) for it . Ive never actually seen one in person, so could it be a go , or is it just too hard?

Well I had a sunny once and it had a L18 in it, so I think that its probable that an RB20 will fit, very tight fit thou!!! And I know if any body could make it fit you could!!

how did the sunny go with the L18 init. i know that the rb20 goes into a bluebird with not to much trouble. there was a feature of one in a zoom mag, it was called KILLER CONVERSIONS. it looked like a pretty sweet conversion. just measure the engine bay of a bluey and compare to sunny.

What do you mean..an L18 fits so an RB20 will fit.
The RB20 is a straight 6.
No chance it will fit. A VG20 or VG30 might fit, as it's a V6.

that's a nice negative attitude to have....
anything will fit if 1) you are willing to relocate thigs like radiator, battery etc 2) you have an accurate tape measure, and are willing to use it a cupla times before you start and 3) have the vision to see it through.
i say you'll need to relocate the radiator forward into the nosecone a fair bit, maybe even use something thinner like a silvia single core radiator and use a big 16in thermo.
it may be a bit too high though - so a scoop might be a mandatory thing, and a lot of the weight will be well over the front wheels which will affect handling. however, if it's just a daily with a bit more poke or a drag bitch then it'll be fine.
i think the biggest issue will be sump position and transmission tunnel height at the firewall - but as i mentioned, a tape measure will remove all questions.
i say go for it.

Quote: anything will fit if 1) you are willing to relocate thigs like radiator to the boot? I dunno pro-240c, I think dattodude's right. I've seen straight sixes under 180B and Stanza bonnets - just! but the smaller Sunny? I don't think so...

whats with all the negativity, i believe anything can be done, it just comes down to the issue of money, in this case a RB20de ALOT of money would be needed! and aquiring a engineers certificate would be hard.

I "really" don't think this will work.
Do I want someone to waste $10,000? Of course not. An RB20 in a Sunny just won't work. The Amount of work required would be huge. The balance would be wrong, the power benefit wouldn't be worth it.
I've even seen RB20 -> S13 Silvia, and they sold the cars soon after.
Asking for an opinion is not asking for encouragement. That's a totally different thing.
I've seen an L28 with triple webers in a 510 at 1999 Shasta. That sounded mean, handled ok, but constantly overheated in traffic. The Firewall had a 1 foot square box section cut into it.
A VG20 is a much better option. Especially if you can get it registered with a turbo.
