Hey,
I just picked up a Datsun sunny for my winter fun car. I never had a sunny before but i have a local wreck full of stanzas, 200b etc etc. I dont wanna through money at this car but i wouldnt mind a front brake upgrade, maybe a diff upgrade etc.

What/if any struts bolt into the front of the sunny?

Is there a diff that bolts straight into the back? i want a locker, just dont want to break axles all the time, or is the stock sunny diff/axles hand lockers ok?

Lastly suspension, whats a good HARD brand of strut inserts i could use, also whats the best springs i could use? Kings etc?

Another thing, is there any other castor rods that bolt in to give adjustment? Longer lower arms to give camber?

Thanks Heaps!!

Leigh w

ok sunny's are easy, stanza stuff bolts in easy.almost the same floorpan.
struts :- stanza struts with girlock calipers will bolt in to the sunny balljoint.what insert?go to a motorcycle shop & get some 20w30 fork oil & use that in the with the stock insert, that'll make it nice & stiff.
diff :- again stanza, japanese is best, but a borg warner diff if you have to.
lower control arm:- don't worry bout this, get a pair of 200b steering arms, they're offset outwards, will give you extra camber.you just need to get 180b outer tie rod ends to match the taper in the arm.you could also just redrill the crossmember.as for castor arms,i don't know of any,you might want to grab some stanza castor arms to check.
springs :- go through a wrecker with a tape measure & try & get some springs with a heavier guage & close to the length of the stock ones.try something common, maybe gemini or some of the ke corolla's,just make sure they're the right diameter.
good luck with the hunt,& let us know what you do.

b310gx do the stanza h165 bolt straight into the sunny with no mods?

i recently did some suspension work to my sunny. i put king springs all round with 30mm lowering. it rides good and is not to firm so its still comfortable. i used monroe GT gas shocks.

over all the car handels much better but still has a tendacy to understeer. im going to get some pedders stabilzer bars fitted along with some polyurathane, dial in some negative camber and see how she goes then. hope to have all this done by the end of the school holidays.

yes they do.having said that, you'll probably have troubles.i know of at least one sunny with a stanza diff,& a l20b as well.it was a friends race car.the borg warner diff's from later stanza's also fit, dragongoose from qld had one in his sunny coupe.also, some stanza's have rear sway bars, grab one of those if you can find one, that'll help balance out the understeer.

thanks a lot for that. i found a stanza the other day and im thinking of getting it and putting the L18 thats init with the 5 speed and the better brakes. the little A12 sunny wil get a bit of go now.

this stanza is a sss does that mean it has the borg warner diff.

im getting some aftermarket sway bars so i dont need to get one of a stanza. this things gone be fun to drive soon.

if the stanza has a rear bar grab it, if you want to throw money away buy an after-market one.
honestly unless you particularly want to keep the sunny the stanza is only about 80kg heavier the bodies very similar the weight difference is in the running gear. you will loose the handling/ balance that the sunny affords, a a15 works well turbo even better

Having had both as race cars I think the smaller frontal area of the sunny definately makes for better performance. I haven't noticed any problems with front rear balance on my car with L20B stanza 5 speed and stanza rear axle.

so you are running a L20b in you sunny. what diff are you using. how does it go. did you have any trouble getting it registered with the engine.

the reason i want the sunny is that this stanza is stuffed body wise and is cheap and i know the is plenty of room.

I have L20B with stanza five speed and h165 from stanza as well.

I am just about to convert to 4.375 H190 alloy carrier diff H190 LSD to give me some better ratios for circuit work.
The h165 handles the power fine though just a bit limited for circuit work. It is not engineerable for use on public roads though as it coulnt comply with emissions regulations with webers. Maybe with injection it could?

did the H165 from the stanza bold straight into the sunny or did you need to modify it.

if i did it i would leave the engine completly stock to get it registered and then hang twin webers of the side.

thanks for the help.
