I have just put a datsun sunny carb on my 1970 Datsun 1200 auto, and i was wondering how to get power to the anti-diesel solenoid, where is a good place to run power from, because at the moment i have taken the jet out from the solenoid because it would not idle but now I am just using heaps of fuel.

The anti dieseling solenoid should have nothing to do with your fuel consumption, so address that as a separate issue. Have a look through the sight glass of the fuel bowl with the engine idling. It should be level with the lottle dot in the center of the glass.

The anti dieseling solenoid cuts off the fuel supply to the idle circuit in your carb when the ignition is switched off. This has the effect of preventing unburned hydrocarbons from passing into the exhaust system, & therefore, into the atmosphere.
A side benefit is the fact that without any fuel being drawn into the cylinders, the glowing hot spots that sometimes exist in the combustion chambers can not cause that "running on" or "dieseling" that can happen when you turn it off.

On hot days, the trick is to turn off the air conditioner [where fitted] as this kills the idle-up device & allows the standard idle speed. Wait a couple of seconds to allow some degree of cool down, then switch off. No embarrasing banging, knocking & running on. I love 'em.

Our tech section article has a bit about wiring the anti-diesel solenoid: Carb troubleshooting. Connect it to the IGN +. A good place to tap in is the ballast resistor 12V side.

What was wrong with them that required fixing by rendering it non functional?

WhiteSedan.
The 1200GX carbs do not have the anti dieseling device. My engine never seemed to have a problem, but the later GX engines with the square top carbs did have a method if preventing fuel flow when the ignition is turned off.

My 1600 used to run on badly, it was pretty embarrassing!
When I put on a carb with the anti-dieseleling solenoid, I ran the power wire to the windscreen wiper feed, which is switched on the ignition and much closer than the ballast resistor. Works a treat, no more running on!
