Hi, Ive just bought my partner a 67' KE10, shes given me her lovely Auto 1200 sedan and I have some big plans for it. I want to build it as a track car as this car has absolutely no rust in the body, a little in one gaurd thats all, it will have a Worked L16 with twin 42mm Webbers, 240k 5 speed, H165 diff, Still researcing what to do with the brakes and suspension yet, looking at the Nissan Comp Booklet, I dunno. ANYWAY I was just wondering with putting an L series motor in a 1200 sedan is there anyway not to have to modify the firewall? How can I make it handle properly? Does the hevier engine make it push a bit through the corners? What problems will I encounter?
Cheers Sean

Have a chat to L18 B110, as he has done a lot to his coupe and also knows how to set it up as he races it

number 1... every body thinks its a damned conversion to do, but actually it is quite simple. and being an auto, it will have the auto transtunnel which is larger, there for u will have a lot less trouble with fitting the larger gear box. and as weight goes, by adding the bigger gear box and bigger diff it will even out quite well.
as for suspension and brakes, have a chat to the race people on here, that would be L18_b110 ( aka harry) and ca18det_man.... ( i think im pretty sure thats the bloke..) have a look through there piks and ask them about brakes and ask harry for more info on the conversion as he has a L18 race coupe ( very shmick i must add).
one day i plan on doin a L20b conversion into my ute.
hope this helps and good luck.
cheers woodydat.

It may have to be "massaged" a little bit to help the bell housing and gear box sit where you would like it to sit, but other than that i do not no of any other reason the fire wall should be modified a great deal.
Cheers, Woodydat.

there's no firewall mods required.

this has been discussed plenty of times before, start with this:
L20b into a Datsun 1200..

and if you've got any other questions let us know.

It doesn't take much to get them handling really well. My setup is really simple and uses no real fancy parts:
- Stanza front struts and brakes - adequate for a road car, but not really much good on the track. I've been meaning to upgrade the brakes for a while now...plenty (too much) info out there about brake conversions.
- Monroe GT Gas inserts and cut down and wired in Gemini coils
- I can't remember now which front sway bar is on the car now, but its either the standard one or a 120Y bar. I think its the 120Y bar.
- rear end has a 17mm sway bar, a set of leaves I put together from a combo of 1200 and 120Y leafs with a reverse half leaf to control tramp.
- revalved koni shocks. until earlier this year I was using 2nd hand Pedder comfort gas shocks in the back and they weren't all that bad.
- geometry at the front end is pretty important for a track car. Its a battle to get enough camber, and you want all the castor you can get, and you will need to trim some of the front gaurd away to get anywhere near enough. A suspension shop speciallising in race cars is the go.
