Very soon I will be purchasing a 71 coupe from a friend of mine, and have already started work on it. I have seen that people are using mikuni or keihin carbs off motorcycles on the a series motors and I had a question before I tried one of my own. I have an old wrecked yamaha FZR600 that came with 4 mikuni 32mm flat slide carbs, do you think that would be enough for a pretty highly modified (still runs 93 octane gas) a14 on the street? I know I will have to tune the carbs and possibly change needles and jets, but I would like to run a setup like this.

I would think it would work well. An FZR600 makes what, about 90 HP? A mildly worked A14 will be about the same. You'll need to fabricate or modify linkage, intake piping, etc.

custom inlet manifold is a must, but for a carb that can keep up with a 900cc engine at at 14k redline i see no reason why they can't handle a 1400cc that revs to 7k.
i have a set of mikuni throttle bodies i will adapt to an engine one day and they have a similar port size to most inlet valves!
don;'t let anyone tell you they "won't work" just because they're not webers.

Thanks for all the help, the carbs are off an old race bike I built a few years ago and wrecked that made 113hp to the wheel, which is about what I expect out of this a14 (lumpy cam, custom headers, high compression and head porting). I realize I will have to fabricate an intake manifold, but that's really no big deal, i do that quite often where I work.
