it was as if i ran out of fuel and died, then it started again for a second and died again. so i got new fuel and put it in and cranked it for ages and it didnt start. checked for spark which was fine so i checked fuel and there wasnt any. checked the fuel line and filter wasnt blocked by blowing air back to the tank and it bubbled in the tank but still no fuel was getting to the filter or pump. so i pulled the pump off and it seemed to be blowing and sucking fine and arm looked as if it was still fine. anyway i have come to the conclusion that it MUST be the fuel pump which is an a12 pump on an a14 however it has been working perfectly for a few months. am i right in my conclusion. what other possibilitys are there, could the lobe on the camshaft that drives the pump be worn away, or anything else, small or large...???

thanks for the replies guys. i sprayed carby cleaner in the carb and pinned the throttle and after a few goes it finally started. im thinking that maybe the fuel pump is too weak to draw fuel from the tank using just the engine speed drawn from the starter motor and usually starts on the left over fuel in the carb. this explains why it didnt start after i ran out of fuel and ran fine after i fed it some fuel directly to get the engine turning over properly. the a12 and a14 pumps are actually a little different but both seem to work ok on my a14, although that goes totally against what most people say.
a little off the subject but i thought id ask, my fuel guage reads really badly, just wondering if anyone has the same problem and if they know if it is the sender or the actual guage. im guessing the sender. just wondering if anyone has substituted it for something out of a different car with positive results???
