I am after one, let me know if you have one (or even part of the system) for sale.

you can get evaporative coolers from jaycar for $40 and filltem with water, or ice or mix them for an ultra cool air, works well in a ute. size of a box of tissues. (normal size box not those square pretend size boxes.)

If you go into any Auto Electrician that does Air-con ( being most) they should be able to show you their parts catalogues with various aftermarket AC units all very similar to the dealer option AC that was original avaliable for 1200's. Places like Ingrams and Coventry sell these parts. But dont expect to just order a kit to fit a 1200 etc, You have to buy the individual parts. The parts catalogues have the sizes, so you just have to choose what size you wish, then you make the pipes to suit your car.

But how does the parts go as in, does any of it have to be set in the engine bay? *taking up too much space*

The downside of these is that they are blowing high levels of water vapour through your interior, which can lead, in the wrong conditions, to mildew & rust.
A real AC works the other way, it de-humidifies the air, which is much better for your car.
The evaporative types seem to work well enough, but the price can, if you are not carefull, be too high.

PVG070
The engine driven compressor, along with the double crank pulley & the belt adjusting mechanism all go into the engine bay. So does the receiver drier along with the plumbing. The condenser is normally mounted in front of the radiator.
When it comes to the asthetics of engine bay space consumption, you gotta make a choice. You either want AC, or you dont.
