As stated in the title I now have rear discs, actually a complete R31 Skyline rear end, but the rear pads are dragging. Is there a residual pressure valve in the brake lines or master cylinder that I need to remove? Could there be another reason for this problem? The rear brakes have been rebuilt so the problem isn't due to a seized piston.

yeah, you need to take a small piece out of your master cylinder. its under the big nut on the underside of the m/c where the line screws in. ask "daveman", he has just done this and will be able to help you exactly as he has the same rear end as you it sounds like. its not a very hard or time consuming job.

yeah, that would be the residual line pressure valve, boy that little sucker has caught a few people out

Yeah, you should find all that stuff in your workshop manual.

Yeah i found it in the manual but I was just curious as to whether anyone else had experienced a similar problem before removing the valve and if it's removal had cured the issue.
