Every time I try to save a picture from a web page to my computer it saves it as a bitmap. There are no other options on the drop-down file type menu when I go to save it, just bitmap.

It's been like this for a while but previously (probably before I re-formatted) there would be multiple options and I'd pretty much save everything as JPEGs.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's been pissing me off for a while and I've searched around for an answer to no avail.

Do you have photoshop??? If you do I think that you can change what a picture is save as in there. Or right click on it and change it in its properties, I think that you can do that in there.

Yeah I've been using PS to change them but I'd like to eliminate that step if possible. I'm hoping it's just a setting that I'm missing or something. Thanks for the reply.

Oh yeah it also is how the picture is uploaded/stored on the net, as to what type of file it is downloaded as.

Apparently it's a common problem... I tried the stuff in the first link to no avail. I did find that if I type the name of the picture with a .jpg at the end it works. Cool. Here's the link:

Very good!! This has had me puzzled for a while, too.
Just to make sure, I tried to Save As... on your thumbnail and it showed .bmp.
I cleared my temp internet files and cookies, relogged on, and now all is well with the world.
Save As .jpg
