Yes A/C is available. I know you are new, and excited about owning a 1200. Welcome to the site.

If you want to learn about something 1200/datsun related, chances are that we've discussed it a lot already. Have a try at using the search bar on the left. You might be surprised at how quickly you can get answers.

Cheers,
Chris

The 1200 ute in Australis was regarded as a workhorse, not a car, so many things we take for granted in the car models, were not available in commercial models.
Aircon was NOT available as an "option", but it WAS available as an ACCESSORY. There were a number of aftermarket manufacturers that either supplied a kit, or all the components for an aircon specialist to create a kit using an underdash evaporator.

See if you can get the compressor mounting, along with the whole belt tensioner & double pulley setup from a Sunny that came with factory air. This is probably the best of the compressor mountings. Get the factory aircon water pump, viscous drive & fan too if you can.

In the 1200 radiator support panel, there is a big square hole alongside the radiator where the filler panel has not yet been cut out. This is where the factory accessory aircon condenser went when the vehicle was fitted with aircon. You can use this mounting position, or the more usual one in front of the radiator. Either way, you will probably need to custom build the whole system.

I have seen one factory aircon in a 1200 ute but it was an Ex Japan car & had a seperate fan unit mounted under the glovebox.
I'm currently doing up my '74 ute with a CA18 & am planning to use a standard compressor & condenser out of a S13 silvia & then buy a fan unit new - You can get these for about $150 at Autobarn.
