Did you modify the front crossmember in your Midget when you installed the Datsun A-
Series engine in it?

I need additional carb clearance, and it would help to drop the motor a little...

Yep I sure did. I notched the rear of the crossmember about 75mm (3") and also sectioned the battery tray about the same so that the engine sits further back and we can run a large
winged sump. Running twin 40 Dellortos the 1460cc Datto motor is making 142HP at the flywheel. All the power is developed from some extensive head work. It runs a lightened steel
flywheel with an EXA Pulsar Turbo clutch pack through to a close ratio dogleg 5 speed. Its got 13x 9 rims and sits 75mm of the deck. With the car so low the exhaust runs through the
passengers footwell and out though the sill. It has a fabricated pedal box with Tilton cylinders and 4 wheel discs with Willwood 4 pot calipers on the front. The rear end is an English
Ford Anglia with LSD and is located by a 4 link and A arm set up and Leda adjustable coilovers. It is nearly finished now and we can't wait to give the big finger to a few MG drivers

I had found a way to mount the 1488 motor, using the 310 exhaust manifold and a slightly-notched A14 - B210 oil pan, such that the frame didn't have to be modified. But then my
GX SU's didn't fit under the bonnet. So I'm thinking of relocating the center section forward.
But the Datsun driveshaft bolted right up to the MG rear, even the rear flange mated perfectly!

Your car is a lot more serious than mine... Got any pics?
