i was in at the wreckers today and got talking to a guy that worked there about datsuns. mainly about engine convertions for the 1200 and i mentioned how an e15 would fit if it didnt have the distributor sticking out the back of the head, he then told me that the n14 pulsars had what he belived to be an e series twin cam that didnt have a distributor, i think it had coil packs
the engine looked like an sr20 but with a skinnyer rocker cover
just wondering if anyone knows anything about these engines and if they are really e series twin cams

Not sure about E-series. Not in Australia anyway.

i guess it was a ga16 said that they were the same bottom end as e series, maybe he just meant that they are similar but anyway, are ga16s any good, has anyone ever tried to fit one into a 1200, can you get rwd gearboxs to fit up to them

You should use a Frontier SC 2001(VG33ER) Eaton Supercharged (factory fitted)
That'd RIP in a datto!

Not sure about an E15- were they the engines in N12- 1984 Pulsars? If so, in my opinion they weren't that good. Our family have had Datsuns/Nissans of different types since 1975. The GA16 twin cam from a N14 Pulsar is quite good but I am not sure if there are RWD g'boxes, you may have to mod one.

when i saw the engine it did look like a single cam, but the guy said that the single cam bottom end used a harmonic balancer to make it able to have the twin cam head. or some thing like that, i wasnt taking to much notice of that engine as i had other things to do but i just got thinking about how it would go in the 1200. but it definatly wasnt an sr16 the rockercover was like an sr one but it was skinnier as i said, ill go back and get some more info

NISSAN did make a GA16. It took place of the E-16 and it had a timming chain instead of a timming belt. It's an o.k. engine ,but I like the e better.
