hi all....
my old engine.. the A12.. very loud
u can hear 'wind blowing' sound very loud
(just like the sound of hair dryer)
then i change to A15 engine..
also same~! very loud.. same 'wind blowing sound'
and all my engine is stock (no modification)

anyway. . to compare
the old car my dad used to have..
B110, with the small engine.. very quiet and smooth.
another B310 with A12 engine , its a car of my relative, also the A12 engine very smooth and quiet.
then yesterday i have a ride in my friends old car, a mazda car (i dono the model, like mazda 1000 or something), also the engine very quiet and smooth

so why all engine i got so noisy
anyone have any clue or any tech detail to share?

thanks

Do you have air injection? Is it connected? The air check valve disconnected sounds like a hair dryer caught in a blender.

Does it have a viscous coupling (fan clutch) If it does check that it is not locked up that will cause a wind blowing noise & bad fuel econemy.

Well, I could say the air check valve is where the cooling system connects to the head...

But I am afraid the response will be "may I ask what is the head"

If you have a limited knowledge of engines,

May I suggest

1. get someone who does to look at it.
2. get a manual for your car if you want to try to solve problems for your self, and to refer to when you encounter vocabulary you are unfamiliar with.

i think it's your radiator fan that is making the noise... as B110 have relatively mush smaller fans compared to A12 or A15 (both uses the same fan during conversion)

does the sound gets louder with higher rpm?

you can try to remove the fan and run the engine... (for a very short time... less than 1 minute) see whether the sound is there.

due to our climate in malaysia, our datsuns have a very large fan (as big as mercs) and it can blow the leaves under the car at 2000rpm. the fan blade can fill up the sapce between the water pump and the rad.

like mine i use electric fan from sunny 130Y

it's much quieter... but you'll suffer from higher rad temp... like mine use to be a quarter... now up to almost half during massive traffic jams.

or you can use the smaller B210 fans but i don't recomend this as it is about half the size of your current fan size
