I need to know about painting 2pac over acrylic. Currrently the car is painted in acrylic and all my welds have been covered using acrylics primers. Can i paint 2pac primer straight over or will it need a sealer to stop it reacting with the acrylic.

Cheers

I had 2 pack put over the top of acrylic on my first car (a Dolomite Sprint) I had no worries with it in the few years that I had it, but the spray painter warned that it wasn't going to last in the long term. He reckoned that the acrylic wasn't a stable base for the 2pack and it deteriorated over time. I am pretty sure they just slapped it over the top without primer though.

Yeah the 2pack wont react, but if the acrylic is thick, the 2pack will eventually crack and craze if left in the sun. It happens because the acrylic is soft and moves and the 2pac wont flex, it just cracks.
Lots of panel shops use arylic primer for repairs but its only thin.

Thanks for the info. The car wont be out in the sun. Garaged all the time and will no longer be a daily driver. Im happy as long as it lasts a few years. By then it will either be sold or done again.

Would you recommend more layers of 2pac primer. Say like 4. Would this go towards it been a better base.

Thanks

just strip the acryllic off the roof and prime it properly... it will craze and crack after the sumer heat affects the panels and the heat, will only cost couple of hundered more, they still have to prime it either way

Hi i have done a number of cars in 2pac. 2 datsun 1200s, mazda 100 ute, RX2, 808 Ap5 valaint all 2pac over other paints.

The main thing is to fully prime the out side of the car 4 coats min.

I can get you 5L of 2pac primer for $140

I can even come over and have alook and show you what to do.
